Real Life Superheroes - Summer Term 1

This half term, our Early Years children will be diving into an exciting and meaningful topic: Real Life Superheroes.

Throughout the half term, we will be exploring the important roles that different people play in helping our communities everyday. The children will learn about the job of a teacher and the many other 'school superheroes' that make our school run smoothly, as well as discovering the vital work of police officers, firefighters, dentists, vets, and doctors and nurses.

Through role play, hands on activities, stories and special visits, the children will develop an understanding of how these real life heroes help, care and protect others. This topic also encourages the children to think about kindness, responsibility and how they can be superheroes in their own way.

We are looking forward to a half term full of curiosity, imagination and inspiring learning experiences.

Beside the Seaside - Summer Term 2

This half term, the children will be diving into our exciting 'Beside the Seaside' topic. They will learn about fascinating plants and  animals that live at the seaside and discover how these creatures are specially adapted to to their costal habitats.

As part of their learning, the children will also explore what holidays were like in the past and compare them with holidays today. Through stories, discussion and creative experiences, they will develop an understanding of how seaside experiences have changed over time.

We will also be learning about the importance of staying safe in the sun, including ways to protect ourselves and keep healthy during warmer weather.

As part of our topic, we will be celebrating World Ocean's Day, leanring about the vital role our oceans play in supporting life on Earth. The children will discover how we can protect our oceans and marine life by caring for the environment and reducing pollution. This will encourage them to develop an appreciation of the natural world and understand how even small actions can make a huge difference!

This engaging topic will provide lots of opportunities for exploration, curiosity and fun hands-on-learning as we discover all things seaside!

Here we will look closely at the way we teach early reading and a chance for you to get to grips with the RWI phonics system in order to help your child become a confident reader. You will receive a letter shortly inviting you to this. If you are unable to attend, all material and training videos will be put onto the class webpage and on tapestry.

We will also talk about the role of Tapestry and how we intend to use it for communication and sharing your child's progress and experiences. If you have not received your invite to sign up for Tapestry by the end of the first week then please contact Mrs Russell in the office.

Numberblocks - Mastering Number

Our Maths learning is all about mastering numbers and to gain a good sense of what properties of number are.

Numberblocks is an acredited program for primary aged children.

Series one is aimed at EYFS children and helps towards good number understanding.

We watch Numberblocks in school to help our fluency. You can help by watching it with your child and asking questions.

Reading

Reading will be a key focus in our learning throughout the year. As your child makes progress through our school we will help to develop a love of books and reading, sharing and exploring a variety of texts and text types.

Children will be encouraged to share and to change their reading books every week with support from myself. This will happen at the beginning of the week. Children will be encouraged initially to choose and select a variety of picture books and as the year moves on we will be sharing a variety of Read Write Inc books that are fully decodable.

Please record when you have listened to your child read or in fact discussed a share book.
