Reading
Reading is a very important area of learning and we aim to help develop a love of books and reading within all of our children. To develop this area of the curriculum, we would encourage that you read with your child at least 4 times a week and record this in their reading record.
Encouraging the children to become more independent in their learning choices is a focus for us and one way that we can do this is to enable the children to change their reading books independently. If they bring a book home with a Hedgehog sticker or a coloured band then this is a sharing book. They may not always be able to read this book independently. However, this allows them to begin to take some responsibility for their own learning but also read books of their own choosing which helps instill within them a love of reading for pleasure. The Read Write Inc reading books will be changed once a week. These are the books that the children should be able to read independently and are picked for their current reading level.
