The Arts

The Arts is a way of communicating that enthuses and stimulates our children in their learning and increases their self-confidence, resourcefulness and sense of achievement. Here at Elston All Saint’s, the Arts reflect the culture and society we live in and so the teaching and learning of this enables children to develop a better understanding of the world around them. The use of Critique is vital in all areas of The Arts, showing children that any interpretation is not wrong and gives them a chance to reflect on their creations and improve it.

Within music singing is one of, if not the most important way in which we encourage and foster children’s passion for music, starting each day with a song in worship, seeing song used throughout the rest of the day in many different and exciting ways. It is a creative and fun activity which engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and plays an important part in helping children feel part of our community. We provide opportunities for all children to appraise, compose, perform and critique music in lots of different styles and genres, forming opinions and views about their favourite types and styles of music.

Here at Elston All saints we truly do believe that ‘Every Child is an Artist’ and our curriculum allows children to show their feelings, thoughts and emotions in different media outcomes. While looking at key artists and pieces of art work that inspire them. Providing opportunities for children to consolidate their art through a variety of skills and processes, such as:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Collage
  • 3D Sculpture - constructing and clay
  • Printmaking
  • Textiles

As children work through the critique process they can see their progress and improvement right in front of their eyes the used of ‘Austin’s Butterfly’ is a great example of this.

Alongside this the use of dance, drama and the visual media gives children a chance to experience the wider aspects of The Arts. Opening doors for work alongside outside agencies from dance teachers, artists and theatre companies.
