Mobile/Smart Devices
We are committed to providing a safe, focused, and equitable learning environment. To support this, our school operates as a smartphone-free zone.
Pupils are not permitted to have mobile phones, smartwatches with communication capabilities (e.g., Apple Watches, Garmin), or other internet-enabled devices on their person during the school day.
Our Rationale
This decision is based on three key principles:
-
Safeguarding: Restricting access to uncontrolled internet usage, social media, and the potential for cyberbullying during school hours is essential for child protection.
-
Focus on Learning: Mobile devices act as significant distractors. Removing them ensures pupils remain focused on their lessons and academic progress.
-
Equality: Banning visible devices reduces peer pressure regarding material possessions and ensures no child feels excluded based on the technology they own.
Smartwatches/devices: Simple digital watches or fitness trackers (without cameras or messaging/calling features) are permitted. However, any device capable of making calls, taking photos, or sending messages is subject to the same rules as mobile phones and must not be worn in school.
