I can't believe we will soon be starting our new term together and I cannot wait to hear all about your Summer Holidays! I am really looking forward to all the exciting things we are going to get up to this term and I know we are going to have a fantastic time!

Autumn 1 Home Learning and Overview

Useful dates and information

Reading Records - Please can reading records be brought in every Monday so they can be checked. Don't worry if you forget to fill them in after every read, as long as there are roughly three reads recorded each week just so I can keep a record.

P.E - Our P.E. lessons will take place on a Monday and Wednesday. Please come to school in your P.E. kits on these days so you are prepared for all the fun we will be having in these lessons (out first lesson will be the first Wednesday back but will be quite a relaxed lesson so don't worry if Kit isn't organised yet).

Forest school - Forest school will be on alternate Fridays. Check back here for Autumn term dates which I will add soon.

Water Bottles - Please can children bring in the school water bottles which can be purchased from the office (these are new and should be leak proof!). If children bring in alternative water bottles they will be kept in a tray at the back of the class rather than on their desk. This is to prevent spills on work books and to stop heavy, metal bottles falling on children.

Homework - Each term there will be a Home Learning Project which will be posted to this website. We will then host a Home Learning Showcase to show our school family our amazing projects. Dates for the showcase will be posted on the Termly Learning Overview posted above. In addition to this termly project please read regularly with an adult at home (at least three times a week) and practice your multiplications.

Spellings

Each Friday children will come home with their spelling books with that weeks spellings inside. They will have a week to practice their spellings before the test on the following Friday. Each week the spellings will be a mixture of spellings related to the spelling rule we have been focused on that week and spellings from the Year 1/2 and Year 3/4 statutory spellings. The statutory spellings can be found below.

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is an online learning app that the children regularly use in school, particularly to support the Computing area of the curriculum and the children can access the learning games at home too.

Children will also use Purple Mash to learn their timestables weekly at home as part of their weekly homework.

Reading

Reading is so important in Squirrels! The more we read the more exciting ideas we get for our own writing! There is nothing more exciting than going on an adventure inside a good book. Think of the places you could go... You could visit Narnia, Hogwarts or a mysterious, magical place, without leaving the comfort of your own home. Reading is your passport to countless adventures.

Please read to an adult, sibling or to yourself five times a week. You need to write in your reading diary everytime you read and an adult needs to sign this. If you are a bit of a bookworm and read lots and lots throughout the week, it's fine for your adult to sign your reading diary at the end of the week to say how often that you have read. A bookworm is such a great thing to be!

Please bring your reading book and diary into school everyday as you will be read with at some point during the week with an adult.

If you have read a really good book please don't forget to add it to our recommended read baskets so others can read it too (I may also read it!).

During the week you will have time do add to your Reading Journals and write about the wonderful books you have read.

This is a great website to further practise maths skills and has a timetables check game which is very close to what your child will experience in the year 4 multiplication test.
