English has a pre-eminent place within the teaching in our school, permeating every facet of our pupils learning from their speaking and listening across the curriculum to their reading and writing in all subjects. Children’s reading and writing foundations are laid with phonics, roleplay, sharing books and listening to stories. Throughout the school a wide range of engaging and culturally enlightening texts are shared to enhance pupils passion for reading, including poetry, classic children’s novels, picture books, short stories and a plethora of high quality non fiction texts. Writing occurs across the curriculum with a focus on presentation, grammar, spelling, sentence structure and text structure being the pillars upon which the pupils learning is built.
