Art and Design

Within Art and Design the children have the opportunity to explore and develop their ideas through first-hand experiences of images, artefacts, artists and sometimes galleries and exhibitions. Children investigate and mark art as well as evaluate and develop their work.

Children begin by creating artwork from observation, memory and their own imagination working on both small and large scales. Their learning moves on to include art from different times/contexts, including local and contemporary art.

We feel it is important to provide as many opportunities as possible for pupils to practise and consolidate their art through a variety of skills and processes, such as:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Collage
  • 3D Sculpture - constructing and clay
  • Printmaking
  • Textiles
